According to a media report the Conservative party as been fined £70,000 for breaking election expenses rules.

The article outlined details of how the Conservative party break the election expenses rules, by failing to report six-figure sums it spent to win three by-elections and also including the general election.

Apparently, the Electoral Commission from its findings suggested that it was a realistic prospect that the money spent had given the party an advantage.

In my opinion, after reading the article I am left with no doubts that this was a deliberate and calculated attempts by this government to deceive the electorate and give their party an unfair advantage over the other political opponents.

The Electoral Commission Chief Executive sums up my belief that the Conservative party knew they did something unethical when she says the commission had to go to court to get the information from the Tory party.  That comment makes me believe that the party demonstrates that it was fully aware of their deception if they were honest and it was a simple mistake then they would have freely turned over all relevant documents to the investigating panel.

There is a suggestion that 13 police forces are looking at whether the so-called mistakes could constitute criminal offences.  However, even if they do I do not see the Crown Prosecution indicting these individuals.  Once again, like most things to do with government corruptions, it will be swept under the carpet and our democratic processes will be knocked back by greed, bribery and people who will stop at nothing to acquire power.

These kinds of incidents totally undermine our democracy and because they are designed to pull the wool over the electorate eyes makes it even more distasteful.  It becomes much harder to trust any political party and the fact that these individuals are making decisions that govern millions of people lives is extremely frightening.
