The United Kingdom has over the last couple of weeks experienced three traumatic events which have left its citizen in a state of shock and the country asking whether these three events could have been avoided.

Firstly, the terrorist activities that occur in Manchester leaving over twenty people dead and the terrorist attack where terrorist use a van to mow down seven people and left many more injured.  Then here we go again with the Grenfell Tower block fire that leaves, according to the media 30 people dead.

In my opinion, the first two events I would call hit or missed because the security services can not always know what individuals that have a propensity to commit terror acts are, where they may pop up and the fact that they can use a motor vehicle to create carnage.  So we can understand that no matter how efficient our security service is they are going to occasionally miss something and in doing so we experience acts of terrorism.

However, the Grenfell tower block fire could have been avoided, according to the residents they complain to the local council their concerns regarding the safety aspects of the building, on more than one occasion. Despite their various representation all they concerns were ignore and now 30 people lose their life.  I cannot understand why society has to wait for a tragedy to occur before we remedy people’s concern.

When people are ignored and their concerns are not dealt with effectively when the worse happened to like the Grenfell fire the consequences for many are horrendous, this includes the victims, firefighters, ambulance crew, families, that have the task of removing bodies, struggling to save people’s life and the families that will never forget the manner in which their family member died.

As a society, we need to deal with the concerns of our citizen, investigate any issues they raise before those concerns become a catastrophe.
