The ninth commandment says ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour’. Exodus 20 verse 16. But although we are, given such clear instructions human beings still find it within themselves to tell lies and cause so much hurt to others.
God forbids us to lie in any matter that is, devised and design to deceive or cause pain, speak unjustly about anyone to prejudice or mar their reputation, and still, we continue to undertake these negative things to our fellow man. I am, reminded that James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. We then go back and look in Proverbs 14 verse 5 ‘ a faithful witness will not lie, but a false witness will utter lies.Â
The first thing that the reader will be wondering is why have I begun this gripe with bible quotes. I find that some of the individuals that I come into contact with on a daily basis, especially those who claim that they are churchgoers and  worshipping God, are the most devious set of liars that one can imagine and to them I say you will reap your reward one day and it will not be what you expected.
For a moment I would like us to close our eyes and imagine what this world would be like if there were no liars, murderers, hunger, homelessness, diseases, envy, greed, and for me the ultimate one jealousy. This world would function so much better if we treat each other with respect and dignity. I personally dislike people who lie as they can destroy, create havoc with one lie, people have lost their lives because of a lie and the perpetrators of lies cannot or will not see how much their lies affect another, and do not kid yourself there is no such thing as a white lie. Lies are lies, whether they are so-called big ones are little tiny ones.
If you read this gripe, I would beg you to think about what harm you could do if ever you decide you are going to lie. Although lies are just that there I would suppose the exception to the rules if your life depended on telling a lie, I would not have any problem with that the lies I am concerned about is those that cause hurt and anguish to others, lies that are avoidable, but individuals chose to tell them. Let us be our brother’s keeper and stop using our tongue to spit out lies against each other if you cannot speak the truth hold your tongue.
