From midday today thousands of protestors will be marching through the streets of Central London, with banners displaying the message ‘we welcome refugees’ to the UK.

Following on from last year when close to 100,000 people marched through London, having seen ghastly images of a Syrian child body shown in the media.  The demonstration taking place today is poignant because the world leader will be preparing today to discuss the refugee’s crisis at the United Nations. 

Irrespective of some negative incidents that occurred against refugees, this rally demonstrate that not all of the UK support bigotry and intolerance. The fact that over eighty percent of the British public wants the government to do more to help resettle refugees is a testament to the humanity that exist among UK residents. 

I can only imagine what these people experience on a daily basis.  The volunteers that are working with refugees, seeing the increase in numbers that are coming into camps, watching as their resources diminish.  Not having enough food or essential medical supplies to assist these refugees, must be tough.

Refugee problems are not new, but it is now a 21st Century nightmare, particular in the European Communities. This time, we need unity to resolve this issue; we cannot allow this to go on or leave it as a legacy for a future generation. 

Action, is required now, and the UK government must listen to the ‘we welcome refugees’ protestors, and take the lead in Europe to find solutions to help resolve this crisis, let us see how much of a humanitarian our government is.  We do not want idle talk; they must put their money where their proverbial mouth is and demonstrate to the electorate and the world that the UK is willing and able to put a significant dent in the refugee’s crisis.
