The media carries a report today that a Metropolitan Police officer sacked for driving while three times over the alcohol limit and dangerous Police officers opposite to Big Ben in London UK. Vintage retro style.driving.

What the bloody hell is going on with Met police officers? Why are there so many incidents relating to police been, sacked?

According to a report, in the media, more than 100 Metropolitan Police officers have been sacked since the beginning of last year.  Apparently, 22 over corruption allegations, 26 neglect or failure of duty, 14 for assault, and other for sexual misconduct, improper disclosure of information, perjury, discriminatory conduct and mishandling property.

There are over 31,000 Met police officers, and it would seem that just over 100 sacked in the last few years is nothing to be too worried about, but I am and, in my opinion, the public will be, concerned with the reasons these officers was, sacked.

First, and foremost we accept those police officers are human beings, and they have the same problems as any other individual.  But once a person decide to become a police officer there is a certain standard of integrity that must be, maintained at all cost.  You can no longer operate in the same arena as an ordinary citizen.

Because, police officers has powers, which they use against the public to maintain law and order when they go and break the very laws that they swear to uphold it make a hypocrisy of the laws.

The Democratic process is, undermined if we no longer have any trust in our police officers, we expect them to be exceptional human beings to undertake the responsibilities of their duties, with honesty, dignity and above all integrity.

It is, however, refreshing to see the Met rooting out the bad apples among their officers, and I hope that they will continue to do so to give the public back the trust that we should afford our police officers, irrespective of what some are we need them in society to protect us.
