Ovarian Cancer Patient Win Massive Payout

A Los Angeles diagnose ovarian cancer patient won a $417 million payout, from Johnson & Johnson, when it was, found that the company’s, baby powder is linked to ovarian cancer when used for feminine hygiene.

Apparently, the patient used the baby powder on a regular basis for more than thirty years and was, diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007. It is, suggested that she developed the ovarian disease because of the dangerous and defective nature of talcum powder.

According to media reports, evidence in the form of documents was,  presented that showed the company was aware of the risk of ovarian cancer and talc but failed to warn consumers. It is stated that apart from the Los Angeles case, there have been three awards against the company in St Louis where damages of $72 million, $79.1 million and $55 million, and more than 1,000 other individuals have filed lawsuits.

In my opinion, companies are there only for one thing and that is profits, they do not care about the very people who purchase their product in order for them to accumulate vast profits.

For example, tobacco companies knew the dangers of cigarette smoking, but until they were forced to put warnings on cigarette packs they never did one flaming thing and we do not know to date how many people died from smoking-related illnesses.

It would be naive of us to believe that everything we consume, wear, basically, all the things that we have to do to live our lives are 100% safe, we would be living in cloud cuckoo land. However, companies should be honest about their products, give the consumer the facts and let us then decide if we are willing to assume the risks.

The warnings on cigarette packs are now graphics, but it does not stop people from smoking, it is their choice, and in my opinion, the tobacco companies are still making their profits otherwise they would close up shop.

When companies deliberately hide relevant facts from consumers that cause us to unknowingly use products dangerous to our health, when they are exposed and are hit monetarily, regardless of the award they should never be able to appeal the jury decisions and maybe they will think twice before withholding the truth.
