What is so significant about the act of Jesus Christ washing his disciple’s feet?

Apparently, before so-called modern transportation, it was the custom for a traveller to have their feet wash after a journey. However, this task was, given to the lowest servant.

Jesus washing the feet of his disciples is a demonstration to us all that we should never put yourself above anyone. When he was done washing their feet he told them John 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.

As Christians, we must demonstrate kindness and love without any boundaries. We must cast out of our mind the idea of social hierarchy. To be humble in our service to others.

John 13:6-10 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean everywhere: and ye are clean.
