According to a media report, a 47-year-old man has been jailed for 12 years for strangling and whipping like a dog a female he met on social media Twitter.

Apparently, having met the man via Twitter, the woman decided to move in with him, the report further states that the pair had an argument over what to watch on the T.V. The man flew into a rage and for 48 hours he tortured, whipped, strangled, kick and punched her repeatedly. Threaten to burn her face. She manages to escape and raise the alarm.

I have lots of respect for social media’s, they allow one to unite with family and friends that you have lost touch with, especially school friends.  They provide a forum where individuals can discuss, debate, various topics of interest and many other positive aspects.

However, I would never meet anyone on social media from a romantic point of view. People present themselves on social media in the way they think others will accept them; they can pretend to be kind, genuine, honest but how do you prove what they say when communication, is electronically undertaken via computer, phone, laptop, etc.

I am not suggesting that there are not people who have met on a social media and establish a loving, productive relationship, without the horrors such as what this woman undergo. However, personally, I would not entertain any relationship with anyone I meet on social media unless that was a person I, knew from back in my past, and have knowledge of the character of the individual.

For me, this story is a warning to everyone using social media to be extremely careful when you get involved with a person you do not know; you could end up with a prince, princess or a monster.
