What Does the Bible Tells us About Laziness

The Bible tells us a lot about being lazy, especially in the book of Proverbs. God wants us to work where we are capable of doing so.

Of course, there are going to be individuals that cannot work whether it is a medical reason or other events which cause them not to work. Equally, there are those who can work should they choose to but decide not to undertake any work.

The Biblical book and verses below give an inclination into what God thinks about those who exhibit laziness.

Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

2 Thessalonians 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Proverbs 12:24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

Proverbs 18:9 He also that is slothful in his work is a brother to him that is a great waster. Proverbs 19:15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

Proverbs 26:15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
