So, I can say that mercy is a love that responds to human need in expected and unexpected ways.

There are so many references of compassion in the Bible that it is not a stretch of the imagination to say at its core, mercy is forgiveness. The Bible speaks of God’s love for sinners, for all of us that is mercy. However, Bible scriptures also relate mercy to other qualities beyond love and forgiveness.

Here we look at what David was praying to the Lord for and he said 2 Samuel 24:14 And David said unto God, I am in a great need: let us fall now into the hand of the Lord; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hands of man.

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.

Not only do we need mercy, but it is crucial to understand and connect every day with God. God’s plan stems from His merciful love for us. Knowing there was nothing we could do to earn our way into His presence, He made a way through the crucifixion of Christ. Defeating death, Jesus opened up access to God for us. Through prayer, God’s Word, and the Holy Spirit living in us, each day brings fresh new mercy. Every morning, God is faithful, even though every day, we fall short. Allowing us, Mercy is God’s gift to the repentant heart.

In everything that we do, we must remember that we need mercy every day in our lives, As the scripture says in Psalm 25:10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. Mighty God, extend your mercy upon me today, help me to understand the errors of my ways and let me lean on you and bask in your everlasting mercy.
