As the family of thirty-year-old Thomas Jackson mourn is passing, let us take the time to reflect that this young man lost his life because he intervenes trying to save another human being’s life.
In the Bible, St John 15 verse 13 ‘greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. I do not know whether Thomas knew the young lady who was attacked, she died, but he makes the ultimate sacrifice to help this person.
We live in a world that is full of evil, uncaring, and monstrous human beings and when one comes along that is so caring, thoughtful and selfless losing him makes the world a poorer place to be.
I cannot begin to comprehend what the family of Mr. Jackson is going through; they lose a remarkable son, and that is never going to be easy to digest. I hope that they will continue to hold on to his memory and remember the good deed that he was doing.
It is tough not to develop hatred towards the perpetrator of this heinous crimes, but if we spend our time hating these sorry excuse for humans then they win, we have to forgive them knowing that they will eventually get their just reward.
