Pride, Covetousness, Lust, anger, Gluttony, Envy, Sloth. The seven deadly sins that God warned us that Devil would use to draw us away from his glory.
So what do we know about these sins and the biblical explanation and verses to help us overcome falling into the trap of these abominations
1. Pride
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Galatians 6:4 But let every man prove his work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. Isaiah 2:11The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be, exalted in that day.
2. Covetousness
Psalm 39:6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches and knoweth not who shall gather them. Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
God warned us here in Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour’s.
3. Lust
Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father, but is of the world.
The Creator could not have made what lust does any clearer as said here in the book of James 1:14-15, But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his desire and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it, is finished, bringeth forth death.
4. Anger
Ecclesiastes 7:9 Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools. Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. 2 Timothy 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient. Proverbs 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
5, Gluttony
Proverbs 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. Deuteronomy 21:20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, this our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.
6. Envy
Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. Proverbs 27:4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who can stand before envy? James 3:16 For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work. James 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
7. Sloth/Laziness
Ecclesiastes 10:18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
