In our world, we seem to forget several Biblical facts about the power of God and what he’s capable of doing when he determined that we are not doing the things that he requires of us.
In the book of Genesis 18:20-21 KJV, And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous. I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is, come unto me; and if not, I will know. God was disgusted with how the people of Sodom were behaving; their evil knew no boundaries.
God emphasises here in the book Ezekiel 16:48-50 KJV As I live, saith the Lord God, Sodom, thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, the fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
God said, “therefore I took them away as I saw good”. He gave them the ultimate punishment for their sinful acts, and he will do the same to us if we do not respect his commandments, live in the light of his words, and obey his teachings.
Having destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, he recognises that the Devil can create havoc among his people and therefore he ensures that we have redemption by the shedding of the blood of Jesus. We have no excuses to allow Satan to destroy us as the people of Sodom were, destroyed. God gave us an anchor in Christ Jesus, and we must use this to make sure we can always defeat the Devil so that when the destruction comes, we, are spared.
