Democracy is something that we do not and cannot bargain away. One democratic process, we held dearly is the right to choose our leaders by voting in an election.
According to the media reports, following Donald Trump surprise win over Hillary Clinton, there have been anti-trump protest in Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, Oregon, Boston, Seattle, San Franciso and Philadelphia.
Irrespective of Trump’s victory speech in which he alluded that he will be President to all Americans, there are a vast number of people that do not and most likely will never trust the man or anything he says.
However, despite our resentment for the man he was democratically elected as the 45 President of the United States. But, following the level of protest against him, he must be feeling a level of emptiness and hollowness in his victory.
I do not know what the outcome of Trump’s win will be, but the protest around US cities cannot be good for the country or its people, or the world at large. Bearing in mind that he doesn’t take over the job until January 2017. If however, these protest are a sign of things to come that is going to dogged his presidency he his in for a rough ride.
May God have mercy on us and the citizens of the United States and the four year journey ahead of them, under Trump.
