For those who is unaware of what an MBE is this is an honour which is bestowed upon the citizens by the Queen and typically followed a recommendation by the Prime Ministers, is called the New Year Honours list. MBE stands for Member of the British Empire.
According to a media report, Ms Wood a former BBC presenter rejects the MBE because she did not like the word Empire, and furthermore, the honour system needs to be, dragged into the 21st century, and it is unfair.
In my opinion, she has shown remarkable courage in rejecting this award.  Honours and awards should be, given to people for outstanding achievements, and personally, I believe that Ms Wood work would make her eligible for an award, but I also respect her wishes in that the word empire ought to be taken off.
Britain, in my opinion, is no longer an empire, so awards such as OBE, Order of the British Empire and MBE Member of the British Empire should be replaced with something that does not have the empire in the title.
I hope the rejecting of this award by Ms Wood will wake the establishment up to the fact that the world no longer wants to continue with archaic and draconian systems.
